He Is Legend Grand Rapids Concert reviews
Don't Waste Your Time!
After purchasing these tickets through Ticketmaster, several weeks after receiving my tickets in the mail, I received two more. There was apparently a concert floor plan change to create more seating ($$$). My seats had been moved from the floor to the elevated seats in section 101. Only after reaching out to Ticketmaster was I told that I could get a refund. There was no explanation, warning, answers, etc. Unfortunately, when I looked at the seats available at that time, the choices were worse than where I was moved, along with being more expensive! My choices were pretty much to forget the show or accept what I was given.
It started on the sidewalk in front of Santander Arena. It seems like the whole purpose of the show is to make sure no one takes ANY photos, videos, makes a call, checks for any texts from their children, etc., etc. This theme was carried over to the jumbo-trons up until the time that the show started, thirty minutes after scheduled. When entering, everyone was handed a card stock flyer shouting that nothing electronic was allowed to be turned on BEFORE or DURING the show. Next: Once the show got underway, we were reminded, threatened, and cajoled 4-5 more times by one of the opening act comedians, Joey Wells, how we would be removed from the arena and forfeit our ticket if our cell was even turned on! There was even bragging about how many people were escorted out the door at the prior night's show. This whole thing was really quite surreal for a comedy act.
The trio consists of Joey Wells, "Spank" Horton, and Na'im Lynn. The sad fact is that all three were funnier than He Is Legend. Mr. Hart needs to either come up with some better material or stick to movies. The skit on the "gun compartments" in his house was waaay too long and unfunny. The bit on Great Baby / Dog was the same. The video lead-up to He Is Legend taking the stage was one long self-congratulatory video of all that He Is Legend has accomplished. We got to hear about his underwear line, his cable channel, his production company, clips of all of his movies, etc., etc. No doubt he is tremendously successful and is to be commended for his entrepreneurialism, but we don't need to have it thrust into our faces; a comedian should come out and BE FUNNY, that is your job!
The sound and video were thumping, sharp, crystal clear, and loud. The venue is nice inside with adequate bathrooms, food choices, etc. The parking is crap, as we have seen many events here, and trying to get out of the garage after the show is an exercise in futility. The production itself was great. Everything was slick and moved right along.
